Microsoft lauds the Xbox One (which was formerly known as the Xbox 720) as being the ultimate entertainment system. The game console’s Kinect voice recognition feature will integrate live games, movies, TV with your favorite web services like Skype giving the new device that all-in-one entertainment system feel. Microsoft made a surprise turn when it re-designed the One model making it look different from its predecessor, the Xbox 360 (perhaps, it would’ve look more like the 360 more had it stayed with the Xbox 720 name). Microsoft claims that the design direction they took is a statement reflecting the new Xbox capability as an all-in-one entertainment system. And moreover, the design of new game console is now keeping pace with the times: it’s simple, all black with white logo, and cover of mixed glossy gray and matte black. Gamepad, Kinect and interface have been also changed. For example, as was already presented in Windows 8, the screen can be divided. All these news demonstrate that it’s a serious device that is also improved inside. Keep reading to know more.
Compared to Microsoft’s previous game consoles, the Xbox One is more like a mini PC. Its specifications can easily compete with those of the PS4. The Microsoft game console is powered by a x64 eight-core AMD Jaguar CPU, 8GB of DDR RAM, and 500GB hard drive. Such capacity easily allows to switch from one app to another: jump from Skype to game, TV and back. Aside from the generic USB 3.0 ports, HDMI in and out ports, the new Xbox has a Wi-Fi direct functionality which allows it to connect with the controller. The One model is, of course, 802.11n Wi-Fi capable and features a Blu-Ray device which was not present in the Xbox 360. Another noteworthy feature is the Kinect built into its very core. To switch on the device, all the user has to do is to say “Xbox On” as the console is always listening, except of course when unplugged.
Like its rival, the PS4, the Microsoft Xbox One also has games which will initially be launched for the this device. According to the producer, 15 games are expected to be launched specially for new console, and 8 of them are new franchises. The titles include: Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Battlefield 4, Dead Rising 3, Fifa 2014, NBA 2k14, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Just Dance 2014, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, Killer Instinct, Fighter Within, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2, and Zumba Fitness: World Party.
Not sure if this is a good news or not, but Microsoft made an announcement mid-May 2014 officially revealing an Xbox One without a Kinect bundle. The Kinect free game console will start selling come 9th of June 2014 and will be sold at a much lower price, rivaling those of the PlayStation 4 (PS4). Head of Xbox Phil Spencer said that this move was made to give Xbox gamers more choices, variety and options in their games and entertainment experiences as well as in their hardware selection. Do note though that new model with a bundled Kinect will still be available. Aside from the unbundling of the Kinect with the Xbox One, Microsoft is also dropping the requirements for an Xbox Live Gold subscription for streaming apps, meaning Xbox 360 and One owners will no longer have to sign up to an Xbox Live Gold subscription to access apps like Skype, and many more.
