It works perfectly, the quality of the camera is great, the sound amazing, easy to use, intarface is really intuitive. You have to be careful when going into the water and having everything closed, but is an incredible phone.

Overview of the Sony Xperia Z

With the announcement of the Xperia Z, Sony has made it’s boldest move in the smartphone market yet. The device is a feature packed juggernaut with all the specifications that make it more than a capable modern smartphone. But Sony, with the Xperia Z wants to do much more than just try and compete with the already existing smartphones. They want the Xperia Z to be seen as a revolutionary device in the smartphone market, and they have designed and implemented some ambitious technology feats in the new flagship smartphone.

The Xperia Z has all the right specifications and ticks all the boxes that are required of a modern smartphone. 5-inch screen, 1080p display, quad-core processor, LTE, everything is there and ready to perform. But in order to tackle the saturated market, Sony is quite ambitious with the Xperia Z, by adding cutting edge features to the device.

The design and hardware of the Sony Xperia Z

Sony is legendary for their great product design in all of their electronics devices and previous Xperia's certainly didn’t disappoint. But the hardware design in the Xperia Z is on a whole other level in terms of build quality and polish

First thing is the gorgeous glass back that feels really nice in hand, and together with the stunning screen makes for a very symmetrical look. The sides of the phone are where the design of the Xperia Z really excels. The power button on the side has been described by the tech community as one of the best designed physical buttons on a smartphone. Moreover, Sony really didn’t want to disturb the all glass feel of the Xperia Z, and it solved that by tucking the headphone jack under a little flap.

The internals of the Sony Xperia Z are equally impressive. The smartphone sports a quad core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2 GB of RAM for ease of multitasking, coupled with all the standard sensors that make a modern day smartphone, like GPS, gyroscope, light and motion sensors.

The Waterproof feature

Sony has paid such an extraordinary amount of detail to the hardware design of the Xperia Z and how the whole casing protects the smartphone’s internals, that the device is basically water resistant. The whole device can be submerged under water and the phone will be perfectly fine and usable. This will undoubtedly make for some very interesting usage cases.

The Sony Xperia Z screen

Sony is world renowned for their great displays, and particularly their Bravia TVs. They have brought the Bravia engine to their smartphones and the results are obvious. The screen of the Xperia Z is a 5 inch one with 1080p resolution and 440 ppi pixel density. That makes for a crisp and clear image quality. Where the Bravia engine kicks in is in the color calibration and contrast level, that really make the images pop on the display.

The screen is a joy to use when you take full advantage of the Sony Bravia features. One example where the screen excels is when watching videos and movies. The 5 inch screen is big enough to enjoy the experience, and the pixel density and all the features really make the images shine.

Performance and battery life

Thanks to the up-to-date modern internal specifications, the Xperia Z performs admirably in all the usual usage cases customers can find themselves in. The processor and the internal memory handle multitasking perfectly, the screen is great for media consumptions, and the audio drives produce great sounds.
Sony has equipped the Xperia Z with a non removable 2330 mAh battery that has enough juice to withstand heavy use for a regular day. The downside of the great hardware design is that you cannot remove and replace the battery when it depletes over time.

The Sony Xperia Z camera

The camera on the Xperia Z is a 13 megapixel one, with Sony’s greatly touted Exmor RS sensor that greatly improves the image quality. The camera app can be accessed right from the lock screen, which is very convenient for quick picture taking. Sony has taken ques from their dedicated point and shoot cameras and implemented some autofocus and image stabilization features into the Xperia Z camera. The result is great image quality. Video recording is also present, with the possibility of shooting 720p clips, and an HDR mode.

Sony Xperia Z software features

Sony continues with their tried and tested model by using Android in their smartphones. The Xperia Z comes with Android 4.1.2 Jellybean, which unfortunately isn’t the latest version of Android, but Sony promises to update quickly.

The Xperia Z also has Sony’s custom UI interface on top of Android, called Cosmic Flow, that has some cool features. The most popular ones are those that are tied with other Sony services, like Music Unlimited, Video Unlimited and PlayStation Mobile.
